- G2 Tangent Design surfaces based on design theme sketch
- A volumetric print for size validation
- Model ready for hand-off to mechanical design
This sport eyewear concept emerged as an exploration in translating design intent into production-ready geometry. The project centers on maintaining strong form and proportion while resolving the geometric, mechanical, and manufacturing constraints of a fully manufacturable consumer product. I developed the project independently, beginning with sketching and surface exploration to establish a clear design direction, then carrying that intent through detailed CAD and manufacturing considerations. The full eyewear assembly was surfaced in SolidWorks, with all components designed for injection molding and drafted accordingly. The work required defining part breaks, hinge placement, user fit, and mechanical interfaces while preserving surface continuity and overall form quality. While limited in narrative scope, the project serves as a concentrated case study in surfacing discipline, draft control, parting strategy, and the preservation of design intent through a DFM-driven pipeline.

The first surface model was printed for size validation. A suitable spot for the hinge was found by cutting the model apart & drawing overtop of it. The visual branding language was built around the branding mark, and the hinge break was designed to maintain it as a focal point.
To the left is a selection of release prototypes, printed in SLS for approximate mechanical behavior. A soft tooling prototype was made for the hinge component, printed in SLA. The mold was filled with a pre-mixed two part polyurethane to validate the tools functionality.
Shown is a draft analysis of the major injection molded components from the assembly. Both primary components have an A-Side and B-Side with one clean parting line. Some extra slides were necessary for mechanical features. A removable wire insert creates a detent for the lens, and prevents undercuts in the primary pull directions. All surfaces received one degree of draft, without breaking design intent.
